Printing with Netgear
I've finally got Mandriva printing through my Netgear PS110 print server. The PS110 (bought 3 years ago for about a fiver off ebay) is a great little print server - 2 parallel ports & 1 ethernet connection, in a quality metal box. It just sits there & prints. Perfect. Except Mandriva wouldn't talk to it.
After much frustration, & googling, the solution turns out to be a combination of Mandriva "GUI configuration" & classic Linux conf file editing.
First set up the printer from "Configure my computer" - use connection type "lpd", & give the IP address of the PS110. Don't waste your life trying to guess server names, stick with IP & you can't go wrong. Share name is "p1" for printer port 1, & "p2" for port 2.
Once you've got the printer "set up", edit "/etc/cups/printers.conf" as root. Find the "Device URI" entry, & remove everything from "beh" upto just before "lpd", so your URI is "lpd://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/p2" or similar.
Restart cups, & away you go!
** UPDATE **: Using Mandriva 2007, no need to edit the "Device URI", it produces the correct address, if you remember to add "/p2" to the end of the ip address.
